Multilateral Treaties--Index and Current Status: Index and Current Status
Published in Hardcover by Butterworth-Heinemann (February, 1984)
Authors: Michael Bowman, D. J. Harris, and University of Nottingham Treaty Centre
Average review score:

A directory of 833 important treaties.
"Multilateral Treaties" is a directory of 833 of the most consequential treaties for our century, from the mid and late 1800's through 1983. For each treaty or convention entry, Bowman and Harris give us: its title, dates of conclusion and entry into force, citations, duration, the depositary, the parties, and any important notations (such as cross references to subsequent amendments). The entries are presented chronologically, and there are subject and word indexes in the back of the book, including on page 511 a roster of the International Labour Organization conventions. The preface contains a glossary of definitions and explanations of the nomenclature of treaties. In addition, a yearly supplement is published for "Multilateral Treaties." The supplement denotes clearly when an old treaty citation is superseded or replaced and occasionally gives a UN doc number for a record from a United Nations sponsored convention. It even continues to keep a running track of the ILO conventions! "Multilateral Treaties" plus its supplement belong on the library reference shelf of any college or university that offers courses in international relations. Edward Grosek. Rievaulx Abbey: Community, Architecture, Memory
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (February, 2000)
Authors: Peter Fergusson, Stuart A. Harrison, Glyn Coppack, and Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art
Average review score:

Splendid Exploration of the Life of a Monastery
In Rievaulx Abbey, the authors have given us a splendid portrayal of life in the Cistercian monastery. The personages of Aelred and Walter Daniel truly come alive in this work. In addition to the historical perspective of the book, we are given insight into the methods of architectural historians and come away with a better understanding of how great historical buildings are interpreted. The prose of Fergusson and Harrison is awe-inspiring. This book is a must-have for the student of monastic architecture.

Seeking the Centre : The Australian Desert in Literature, Art and Film
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (February, 1999)
Author: Roslynn D. Haynes
Average review score:

Fascinating Insight into the Red Center
Haynes has put a great deal of effort, energy, and insight into an incredible exhaustive exploration of what the Australian Desert means to Australians and how it came about . Especially interesting to me are the sections on Australian Explorers and how their hardships, especially failures have been transformed into myths. As American who spent a semester in Australia, taking an Australian Studies course, I found this book supported what I had learned, while futhering my interests. Haynes provides numourous books, films, poems, works of art in detail discussion about many big name Australian creatives such as Nolan and White. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to know more about Australian Culture.

Authors: Deborah Hodge, Deborah Hodge, Ray Boudreau, and the Ontario Science Centre
Average review score:

Excellent elementary science experiments.
This book is the best I've seen for doing simple machine experiments at the elementary level. It is perfect for third and fourth grade science classrooms. The directions are simple to follow and the results of the experiments are easy to understand. The function of each simple machine was clear. Students are able to collect the materials from home and the experiments are designed for them to work together. An excellent teacher resource!

Excellent coverage of Yoga with a scientific perspective.
Drs. Martin and Marian Jerry have done an exceedingly wonderful job of presenting Himalayan Yoga, guiding us through experiential exercises, and connecting yoga within a spiritual scientific perspective. Written by a psychologist and an oncologist, this is an easy-to-read book that covers this approach to Yoga in a sutra format (brief aphorisms). Highly recommended reading for anyone wondering about or even diligently practicing yoga.
